About

Built by people who coach OKRs for a living.

OKRGoal and OpenOKR are made by OKR Institute. Since 2017 we have coached organisations through OKR rollouts, trained the people who run them, and certified OKR practitioners around the world. OKRGoal is what we built from what we learned: the software an organisation runs its OKRs on, so the method keeps running when no coach is in the room.

Why we built it

Built on the lessons of okri.io.

We have watched OKRs succeed and fail in more than a thousand organisations. The ones that fail rarely fail on strategy, or on the tool. They fail because nobody keeps the rhythm going long enough for it to become a habit. It holds while a coach is in the room, and slips in week six when the coach has gone.

We built okri.io, our OKR platform, to support that work, and it taught us what software has to do for the habit to last. Check every objective as it is written. Run the weekly rhythm instead of reminding people about it. Chase what is late, where people already are. Close every quarter with an honest answer.

OKRGoal and OpenOKR are those lessons, built in. We wrote the method down, all of it, in one public document. We built software for running your OKRs that enforces it, with two AI teammates that keep the rhythm going every week, whether or not a coach is involved. And we made it open source, because an organisation's strategy is too important to run on a tool it does not own.

What we believe

01

The rhythm is the product

The weekly session and the quarterly review are run by the software, not remembered by a person.

02

Software should start the conversation

Two agents that initiate, escalate and propose, so nothing waits to be discovered.

03

AI should help, never decide

Every rule is code. The AI drafts and words things. Turn it off and every rule but one still runs.

04

Every rule should be arguable

Every message cites its rule. Every rule is public. Practitioners can change it.

05

You should own your tools

Open source, every feature on every plan, self-host free, export everything.

Three names, one release

OKR Institute, OKRGoal and OpenOKR.

OpenOKR is the open source product: what you install and run yourself. OKRGoal is OpenOKR in the cloud, run for you by OKR Institute. There is one product and one release. The cloud is a way of running it, not a second product.

When you want people, not just software

Coaching and certification, from the same team.

OKRGoal keeps your OKRs running. Sometimes a team also needs a person in the room. OKR Institute's certified coaches run OKR rollouts, and its certification path trains the people who lead OKRs in an organisation: Foundation, Practitioner (C-OKRP®), Leader (C-OKRL®), Chief OKR Officer (C-OKRO®) and Professional (C-OKRPro®).

How we make money

Plainly.

We charge for running OKRGoal, in plans priced by the AI credits they include, for support contracts for organisations that run OpenOKR themselves, and for OKR Institute's coaching and training. We do not sell features: every plan has all of them, and OpenOKR is free to self-host with no limit on people. We do not sell your data. We do not train models on it, and the providers behind the AI credits in our plans do not train on it under their terms.
